Seafood fans find lots to love at Mainsail Restaurant, on North Carolina Highway 50 in Surf City. Popular Calabash seafood platters come with a choice of flounder, shrimp, sea scallops or oysters individually or as combinations. Maryland crab cakes and grilled fish served with a choice of delicious sauces also are popular.

A raw bar that features oysters steamed or raw on the half-shell is a recent addition that draws lots of fans. Steamed snow crab legs are on the menu, too.

Landlubbers enjoy the Friday and Saturday night prime rib special. Filet mignon, New York strip and chicken marsala mark the regular menu, along with other meat and pasta dishes. Daily specials are always a good bet. Sandwiches and salads please those who prefer lighter meals.

The restaurant serves beer, cocktails and moderately priced as well as higher-end wines. Check the cocktail list for chocolate martinis and fresh fruit daiquiris. Mainsail accommodates large parties, and reservations for large groups are accepted. A separate room downstairs may be reserved for private parties.

The upstairs Commodore Room works for wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners or anniversary parties. The Commodore Room also offers entertainment periodically. Both bands and comedians have been featured there.

Mainsail Restaurant is open for dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily during the active season. Call for off-season hours.
