Get ready for Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar, Wilmington’s newest ice cream experience!

Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar is a sugar lover’s dream displaying sweets in every direction. With an ever-expanding lineup of signature shakes, desserts and over-the-top treats, Crazy Mason offers outrageously fun milkshakes, sundaes and more.

The Wilmington sweets shop offers 29 different over-the-top milkshakes adorned with numerous confections — all referred to as Crazy Masons. Each is heavily decorated, weighs between one and two pounds and comes with a bounty of add-ons and adornments like slices of cake, bits of candy and chunks of cookies. Other crazy dessert options include nachos, waffles and sundaes. Anyone would be hard-pressed not to find something on the menu to suit their taste. There is also an option to create a customized treat by picking an ice cream flavor, jar swirl, rim base, rim roll and toppings.

All shakes, created using Blue Bell ice cream, are available as scooped ice cream or a blended milkshake. Here’s how the menu describes the Short and Sweet: “Vanilla ice cream blended with strawberry crunch in a strawberry swirled jar with a vanilla frosted rim in homemade strawberry crunch. Topped with strawberry sauce, vanilla pound cake, whipped icing, whole strawberry and homemade strawberry crunch.”

Here’s the description of the Oat-rageously Good: “Oatmeal crème pie ice cream in a vanilla frosted jar rolled in crushed frosted oatmeal cookies. Topped with an oatmeal cream pie, white marshmallow, whipped topping and crushed oatmeal cookies.”

Crazy Mason’s unique milkshakes and sundaes are served in large, custom-designed glass Mason jars featuring local artwork. Customers can keep their collectible jar, and there’s a convenient station provided for rinsing the jars, bagging them up and taking them home.

Those looking for pared-down options, can get waffle cups and single or double ice cream scoops. There are also vegan and non-dairy options. Crazy Mason features rotating specials each month including the Crazy Coolata and Key Lime Pie.

Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar began in Myrtle Beach in 2020 at the very height of the pandemic. Wilmington’s location is the ninth store and has quickly become a dessert destination. Currently, Wilmington is the only southeastern North Carolina outpost.

The store is owned and operated by a local family, specifically Gabriele (Gabby) Pike and her husband, Donald Turner.
“My husband supported my passion to be a business owner and bring this opportunity to Wilmington,” Gabby says.

She previously worked in healthcare for 25 years and is excited to take this next journey in her community. She wanted to open something fun while cultivating family time. Opening Crazy Mason was the perfect fit.

“Our family has always been foodies,” Gabby says. “We wanted to make people happy in a family-friendly environment, and ice cream is always an enjoyable experience. Our motto is ‘always save room for dessert!’”

Crazy Mason has expanded by opening a food truck for special events.

Owning a food truck has always been Gabby’s “reach for the stars” dream. The truck’s menu is similar to the stores but on a mobile scale. Milkshakes, sundaes, nachos, waffles, ice cream parfaits and many more desserts are offered. The menu can change based on the event.

Gabby and the staff take great pride in their work. What truly makes them different is the quality of their product, Gabby says. Each shake layer is lovingly prepared and a work of art from beginning to end.

“There is a lot of artistry with it,” Gabby says. “They are master creations.”

Gabby cares about her employees and tries to instill leadership skills in each person to give them the opportunity to grow their potential.

It is this excellent care of both employees and customers plus a fun environment that keeps customers coming back. By the way, you can even bring your furry friend in for their own free pup cup and milk bone, and military and first responders always receive a discount.
