Attractions & Entertainment

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher shows many of the ways that water impacts life in this area. Indeed, water has played perhaps the pivotal role in the Wilmington area’s history, development, and continuing growth. We are fortunate that we live in an area where water of all types exists in abundance.

From our spectacular sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean to the relatively tranquil Intracoastal Waterway to the majestic Cape Fear River to the lakes and ponds that are ubiquitous in Southeastern North Carolina, we live, work, play, fish, swim, surf, snorkel and relax in close proximity to the water.

There are a number of ways to gain an understanding of the role water plays in our economy.

A good place to begin is to see what can be found in historic downtown Wilmington.

Nightmare on Princess Street

Created by film, TV, theater and entertainment professionals, Port City Fear Factory’s Chapel of Horrors in Wilmington is the premiere haunted attraction in the region.

Listen Up

At Live at Ted’s, an intimate Wilmington performance venue and listening room, it’s all about the music.

Pip & Scout Make a Splash!

Two loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings named Pip and Scout are making a splash at North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF). Pip and Scout are survivors found in nest excavations at Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher. Their names began with ideas from staff, then votes from students throughout North Carolina.

Weddings at Airlie Gardens

Airlie Gardens is a dream to experience any day, but it’s an especially dreamy setting for a wedding. With its 67 acres of thriving gardens, robust oak trees, historic structures, bubbling fountains and truly unique gems of nature, it’s no wonder Airlie Gardens is the most popular outdoor wedding venue in the Cape Fear region.

Airlie Gardens’ Signature Events

In a city like Wilmington, there is always something worthwhile to be doing, no
matter what time of year it is. That’s especially true at Airlie Gardens, the 67-acre
public garden nestled between charming, historic downtown and the bustling
beaches of Wrightsville.
