Who’s Who of Wilmington Today: Meet Greg Westberg, General Manager of Operations and Marketing, Pour Taproom

Pour Taproom is a self-serve bar and beer garden that was started in Asheville, NC, in 2014 to support and showcase local craft beer. Their self-serve system allows customers to try a large variety and selection of beer, cider and wine, and they constantly rotate the selections. Pour Taproom’s other locations, from Buffalo to Atlanta and more, are not franchises but rather a group of friends and family with small local businesses in different cities throughout the Southeast and California. The Wilmington location is run by locals and supports the local community.

Where are you from?

I was born in Long Island, New York, but grew up in North Carolina.

 

How did you end up in Wilmington?

I left for a time, but family brought me back to the area.

 

What is your favorite part about living in the area?

That’s easy: the beaches. I also like its proximity to Raleigh, the downtown Wilmington area, the shopping and dining options and the local community.

 

What are three words that describe you?

Hardworking, ambitious and driven

 

What is your average workday like?

As the general manager of operations and marketing, my role is all over the place. Typically, I come to work at 5 pm Monday through Thursday and on Friday, I’m here from 3 pm until we close. We utilize a lot of technology including our tap system.

 

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people, both our employees and our customers (locals and tourists). It’s all about the people.

 

What is the most difficult part of your job?

Finding that work-life balance.

 

What has working at Pour Taproom done for you?

It has allowed me to expand my resume from building a website to creating an online ordering platform for the Taproom.

 

Do you have any future goals for the company and what will you do to achieve any goals?

If there is a positive side to the global pandemic, it’s that it allowed us the opportunity to expand and renovate during the shutdown (something that we would otherwise have had to close down to do). We fast-tracked some of these including online ordering, curbside pickup, a service liquor bar and adding a game room, just to name a few.
