Who’s Who of Wilmington Today: Meet Jerry Helms

Lifelong Brunswick County resident Jerry Helms has made a mark on the local real estate market. As the director of sales and marketing for Brunswick Forest, Helms has helped welcome more than 2,000 families to the community. Originally from Long Beach, now known as Oak Island, his passion for fishing, surfing and flying are a few of the main reasons Helms still resides in the area today. 

What is your favorite part about living in the area?
JH: Being by the beach and the water

What is your average workday like?
JH: I get into work at 6:30 am and leave at 6 pm. Everything in between is a new day and a welcomed challenge.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
JH: My work family and welcoming new people to Brunswick Forest.

What is the most difficult part of your job?
JH: Making sure I give all my staff the support and attention they need on a daily basis. It is a very busy place.

What has working at Brunswick Forest done for you?
JH: It has given me the opportunity to have a blessed career in an area that I love.

Do you have any future goals for the company?
JH: My goal is to continue the success we have enjoyed for the past 12 years.

Favorite movie: I have three: Sand Lot, Endless Summer and A Christmas Story
Embarrassing moment: Whenever I forget someone’s name that I should remember.
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why: I would like to be able to hold my breath for a really long time so I could free dive and spearfish without coming up for air.

Do you have any pet peeves:  I do not like disorganized and unstructured environments. I like to have everything in its place.

Our community and our residents are very active. Whenever you drive through the neighborhood, you will see lots of people out walking, riding their bikes or playing sports. We also have a retail and medical center that is the hub or our neighborhood. You can grab lunch, do your grocery shopping, get a check-up and do your banking all right from within the community.
