Hankering for a USDA Prime steak? Ruth’s Chris Steak House in downtown Wilmington’s Hotel Ballast is the place. Enjoy your favorite cut in the main dining room overlooking the Cape Fear River and the magnificent Battleship North Carolina.

Selections include filet mignon, New York strip, rib-eye, T-bone and a porterhouse for two. The lamb, pork and veal chops are delectable. Seafood, including a huge, three-pound live Maine lobster, is available. Picking just one or two side dishes is difficult with nine vegetable presentations, potatoes prepared eight ways,  and several delicious salads.

Begin the evening with numerous appetizer choices, including an always popular shrimp cocktail that features four huge prawns. Seared Ahi tuna, Maryland-style crab cakes and oysters Rockefeller are other appetizer choices. There are always two soups on the menu, Louisiana seafood gumbo and onion soup au gratin, with a soup of the day that varies throughout the seasons.

Pair your meal with something from the extensive, award-winning wine list or choose a cocktail or craft beers. Caramelized banana cream pie’s white chocolate banana custard is just one of many sweet ways to end a meal.

The inviting lounge opens at 3 p.m. daily with dinner beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday and 5 p.m. all other days. Ruth’s Chris Steak House is open for lunch only on Sunday, with service beginning at noon. Check the separate lounge menu as well as special offers several days a week on cocktails, wine and the bar menu. A private room for special gatherings affords a beautiful view.
