This Valentine’s Day, grab your loved one and visit one of the area’s romantic locations, sure to invoke warm fuzzies and remind you why you can count yourself lucky to live in Southeastern North Carolina.

North End of Wrightsville Beach

Pack a picnic and head out to Wrightsville Beach’s North End to take in the breathtaking views of beach grass, dune flowers and the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Follow the coastline north from Access #1 and find a curious mailbox posted alone in the sand. This mailbox is not recognized by the postal service, but instead holds notebooks and pens for passers-by to write down their innermost thoughts and feelings. The mailbox is commonly used by would-be grooms for proposals, and the site where the mailbox sits has been the location for a number of beach weddings.

The Kissing Tree at Brunswick Forest

Tucked next to a wooden boardwalk pathway inside the central, natural area at Brunswick Forest is the famous “Kissing Tree” landmark. Beloved by residents of this master-planned community, which is located just a few miles outside of downtown Wilmington, the Kissing Tree is a destination for lovebirds and anyone who can appreciate the beauty found of nature. While you are there, walk the length of the Brunswick Forest boardwalk which winds through the 400 acres of natural forest in the center of the community.

Airlie Gardens Pergola Garden

Hidden inside the majestic 67-acre park at Airlie Gardens is the ethereal Pergola Garden. Stately columns draped in wisteria shade a white pebble walkway which ends with an elegant fountain that overlooks Swan Lake. Romantic with a dream-like feel, the Pergola Gardens are a popular location for wedding ceremonies, and are the perfect place to hide away with your loved one on Valentine’s Day.

Downtown Riverwalk

There is a reason why Wilmington’s downtown Riverwalk is a popular location for engagement photo shoots, proposals and wedding photos. The newly-expanded Riverwalk offers sweeping views of the Cape Fear River and gorgeous sunsets framed by the iconic Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. The Riverwalk’s charming old-fashioned curved lights provide a romantic atmosphere that harkens to days gone by when couples joined together, hand-in-hand, for evening strolls along the riverfront.
