Downtown Wilmington hosts Jennifer Marie Keller’s “Thresholds” at ACES Gallery July 24–Aug 24, opening Fourth Friday (6–9 p.m.); free admission.

Downtown Wilmington will step into a world of myth, symbolism, and luminous craft this summer as Wilmington artist Jennifer Marie Keller presents Thresholds, an upcoming solo exhibition at ACES Gallery (Arts Council of Wilmington & New Hanover County). The show opens Friday, July 24 during Fourth Friday (6–9 p.m.) and runs July 24–August 24. Admission is free and open to the public.

A Mythic Solo Exhibition in Downtown Wilmington

With Thresholds, Keller invites visitors into a realm of beauty, wonder, and mystery—one that feels both timeless and newly discovered. The exhibition’s title hints at a crossing point: a place between the familiar and the unknown, where stories, symbols, and emotion take on new meaning.

The show features Old Master–inspired oil paintings and classical drawings, ranging in size from intimate works as small as 5-by-7 inches to large-scale pieces reaching six feet. That range creates a dynamic viewing experience, encouraging guests to move between close-up detail and sweeping, immersive imagery.

Highlight: “They Traded Pieces of Themselves to Live in the Orchard”

Anchoring the exhibition is a standout centerpiece work: They Traded Pieces of Themselves to Live in the Orchard (6-by-4 feet). The painting draws viewers into a golden, dreamlike landscape of pomegranate trees and curious black birds, offering a rich visual narrative that feels part fable, part personal mythology.

The imagery suggests transformation and exchange—an invitation to consider what we give up, what we gain, and what it means to belong to a place that is both enchanting and unsettling. It’s the kind of work that rewards a second look, revealing new details and interpretations with time.
