Lt. Gov. Rachel Hunt to Speak at GLOW

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Rachel Hunt will speak at GLOW Academy’s Class of 2026 commencement in Wilmington as the school celebrates 10 years.

The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (GLOW) announced that North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt will attend and deliver remarks at the school’s commencement ceremony for the Class of 2026.

As North Carolina’s first and only single-gender public charter school, GLOW Academy has become known in the Wilmington community for helping young women develop confidence, purpose, and a strong sense of belonging. The 2026 graduation also coincides with a major milestone for the school: GLOW is celebrating its 10th school year.

Lieutenant Governor Hunt’s participation highlights the significance of the moment for graduates, families, and supporters of public education across the region. Hunt is only the second woman in North Carolina history to serve as lieutenant governor, and her visit reflects a continued commitment to leadership and educational opportunity—values that align with GLOW’s mission.

“Graduation is a reflection of what’s possible when students are supported by dedicated educators, engaged families, and a community that believes in their potential,” said Kate Tayloe, principal of GLOW Academy. “Lieutenant Governor Hunt’s presence reinforces the importance of continuing to invest in the next generation of women and creating opportunities where every young woman knows she belongs, has a voice, and can lead.”

Class of 2026 achievements: 100% college acceptance and $9.8 million in scholarships

GLOW Academy’s Class of 2026 will be recognized not only for completing their high school journey, but also for exceptional academic outcomes. The senior class has achieved 100% college acceptance and earned more than $9.8 million in merit-based scholarships.

The class also includes a QuestBridge Scholar, underscoring the academic excellence and future potential of GLOW students.
