Here, we chat with the multifaceted musician ahead of his Wilmington performance.
What jump-started your desire to be a professional musician?
My desire for music, I believe, was born out of noticing I had an innate ability to move people when I held a guitar. It took me a long time to realize — but ultimately it comes down to the enjoyment of connecting with people in a beautiful and authentic way.
Where does your artistic inspiration come from?
Inspiration for new songs is a mysterious thing. In recent years, it has predominantly come from a love affair taking place in the context of a global adventure full of awe-inspiring locations, natural wonders and cities rich in art, history and myth. I value whatever awakens my soul, and it is vital to my artistry. I’d even consider it part of the work, to live this way.
How would you describe your sound?
Emotive, cinematic, passionate and expansive. You can hear pieces of Spain, Italy, France and the world at large articulated through a singular guitar.
What’s on your Wilmington to-do list?
I have not been to Wilmington — but I am very keen to explore! Natural beauty, especially near the water, is always a place of peace and inspiration for me, so the beauty I’ve seen in photographs of Wilmington certainly makes me excited to see the town on either side of my performance there.
Play favorites for a second. Do you have a standout song on your upcoming album Like The Night Itself?
I don’t believe I have a favorite song from the upcoming album. Each song depicts a moment in time, often with a dramatic backstory in an incredible location. I’ve tried to give each song its full emotional articulation. Each one is a vignette of a unique and important moment in my life, so I really can’t choose a favorite.
How does it feel to be performing solo?
Performing solo is the most natural experience for me. It’s how my life in music began. I love nothing more than to immerse myself in these compositions, internally revisit the moment of their creation and share that with the audience through this very pure and unfiltered medium of an acoustic guitar.
What’s in the works for your summer tour and beyond?
The summer tour is going to be a chance to share these experiences with audiences I’ve not yet had the chance to connect with. I’m really enjoying taking people on this continued journey of musical exploration, so hopefully I can meet a few more friends and fans to take on the journey with me. Afterwards, I’ll be heading back to Rome to put the finishing touches on Like The Night Itself, which I’ll be able to share with you in 2025.
