A Spotlight on Local Theater
Brian Whitted will host the 11th annual Wilmington Theater Awards at Thalian Hall on March 20.
The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County, in association with Thalian Hall, will recognize the best and brightest in Wilmington’s theater landscape at the 2024 Wilmington Theater Awards at Thalian Hall on March 20.
This event serves as a testament to the flourishing performing arts scene within the community and will acknowledge and honor the outstanding contributions of local talents, from actors and directors to designers and technicians.
“In keeping with our mission of supporting artists, arts organizations and audiences, we are pleased to produce the Wilmington Theater Awards,” says Rhonda Bellamy, president & CEO of the Arts Council of Wilmington & New Hanover County. “The region’s rich theater scene is on full display at the awards show and allows us to recognize the many people who make the magic happen.”
Host Brian Whitted, known for his charismatic presence and musical talents, will guide attendees through an unforgettable evening celebrating Wilmington’s vibrant theatrical community.
Whitted won a Wilmington Theater Award last year for his musical direction of Opera House Theatre Company’s Kinky Boots. His credits also include Broadway and touring productions of Chicago plus working as a pianist for Debbie Allen, North Carolina native Roberta Flack and superstar Bette Midler.
Nominations in 21 categories include performers from more than a dozen production companies from around southeastern North Carolina. The musical Next to Normal, from BS Productions and Opera House Theatre Co., leads all nominations this year with 11. Winners will be selected by a combination of votes from the theater companies, the nomination panel and the public. Public voting is live now at the Arts Council website and will continue through January 30.
