Beach Shop & Grill
Beach Shop & Grill in Topsail Beach has been in business since 1952. Trained pastry chef, Cheryl Price and her husband, Jeff, have owned the business that serves as a landmark on Topsail Island since March of 2002. It all began in 1952 as Warren’s Soda Shop selling hamburgers and hot dogs. The restaurant has a split personality. Don shorts and flip flops for casual breakfast and lunch times. Around sunset, diners wear upscale casual attire, say sundresses and khakis.
The head chef since 2014 has been Chef Chris Gates who was previously a private chef for several politicians, celebrities and bands including Steve Winwood, Widespread Panic and Ashley Judd.
Beach Shop & Grill maintains that tradition of a fresh, hand-pattied burger as well as uses the finest ingredients to create inspired takes on the South’s favorite foods. From March through December their breakfast, lunch and dinner menus reflect their passion for creating dishes from scratch, including all of the desserts. They pride themselves in going above-and-beyond, making from scratch as many items they serve as possible.
Morning eye-openers include classic eggs Benedict, buttermilk pancakes and create-your-own omelets. Lunch might feature a fried chicken Cobb salad or a golden beet salad with organic greens, candied pecans, English cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and goat cheese, all tossed in vinaigrette. Choose sandwiches or fresh grouper, grilled and tucked inside tacos. Good luck resisting the fan-favorite, hand-pattied, Angus beef burger.
The restaurant staff breaks out linens and candles for dinner tables. Steaks, fresh local seafood and pasta are dinner highlights at the restaurant that many beach-goers consider Topsail’s best. Specialties include shrimp and grits, jumbo lump crab cakes with lemon aioli and Shellfish Mac ’n’ Cheese with shrimp, scallops, lobster, fresh herbs and romano and parmesan cheeses. Leave room for key lime pie with mile-high meringue. Owner and master pastry chef Cheryl Price is the pie queen.
Wine lovers get the island’s best selection of labels by far. Numerous craft beers and fine cocktails are served, too. Despite the delicious array of food and drink, prices are comparable to other area restaurants.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served mid-March into early November. Call ahead for hours no matter when you visit. Beach Shop & Grill is available for catering and private events and their building is perfect for corporate outings, family reunions, wedding receptions, and rehearsal dinners; they will even create an amazing menu just for you. They are conveniently located within a block of the Topsail Island Assembly Building.
