River Landing: Down by the River

The gated community of River Landing continues its tradition of exceeding expectations.

River Landing in Wallace, North Carolina, is more than a place to call home. The gated golf community is also a destination where you can stay, play and celebrate.

It’s nothing new to those who live here. The picturesque neighborhood has been around since 1996, first developed by the Murphy family to blossom into a special location for young families and retirees alike. And that tradition holds true today through River Landing’s standout success.

The Amenities

The centerpiece of the community is the golf experience. River Landing’s two 18-hole championship golf courses are ranked among the top courses in the state.

“We have a very robust golfing community here and in the surrounding areas,” says Brett Roderick, Community Development Coordinator at River Landing.

Additional world-class amenities include the beautiful clubhouse, a heated outdoor pool, a community fitness center, tennis courts and basketball courts. Outdoor pickleball is currently available and indoor pickleball courts are under construction.

River Landing features a host of walking and biking trails for exploring the scenic surroundings, as well as numerous ponds for catch-and-release fishing. There are 63 maintained catch-and-release ponds — more than in any other community in the area. For more fun on the water, the neighborhood has access to a boat launch on the Northeast Cape Fear River, so residents can launch their canoes, paddleboards or kayaks into the water.

In addition to the ballroom at the clubhouse, there are several venues throughout River Landing that can be rented out for special events like weddings and birthday parties.  This includes the River Lodge, a huge outdoor event space on a bend along the river. This area features white sand, which was brought in to re-create the white, sandy beaches found on the riverbank. There’s also the uniquely luxe Mad Boar Restaurant & Pub right outside the gates of the community, which features The Celtic Court and the smaller Renaissance Room.

The golf courses host a number of benefit tournaments year-round, such as the annual Hope for the Warriors Invitational every August, which supports wounded and fallen military veterans and their families.

The Homes

The Custom Home Program (CHP) at River Landing allows potential homeowners to plan out their customized dream home with the help of custom home builders, architects, interior designers and landscapers. Roderick reports that dozens of homes in different sections of the community are currently in the planning pipeline or in the middle of being built right now, with lot sizes ranging anywhere from 0.2 acres to 0.9 acres.

The three preferred builders that are part of the CHP are River Landing Builders, Legacy Homes Inc. and Johnny Taylor Inc.

“I just had three families here this weekend doing what we call our Discovery Tour, where I show them all of the amenities and the homes that are in the process of being built, and walk them through the beginning stages of building,” Roderick says.

A few more features of River Landing that stand out from other nearby communities are the easy access to metro areas (Wilmington, Raleigh and Jacksonville, for example), while at the same time remaining tucked away from all the hustle and bustle and offering a more laidback, rural lifestyle.

“Also, we weren’t built by a developer who just started the community and moved on,” Roderick says. “Several members of the Murphy family actually live within River Landing, so they’re committed to both the financial and personal wellbeing of the community.”

One final standout difference in River Landing, unlike other gated planned communities, is that it did not clear-cut any acreage on the property.

“As soon as you drive through the gate, the abundant trees and natural surroundings make an immediate impact,” Roderick says. “It’s obvious how seriously we take the preservation of our ecosystem and our natural habitats, and that’s one more reason why so many of our residents have chosen to call River Landing home.”
