Local author pens Wilmington guidebook, 100 Things to Do in Wilmington, North Carolina, Before You Die.

Need a go-to to-do list guide of insider activity inspiration for all the things to see and do around Wilmington? Look no further. Penned by freelance writer-slash-photographer Amy Conry Davis, the recently released insider guidebook 100 Things to Do in Wilmington, North Carolina, Before You Die is chock-full of adventures and tips for longtime locals to first-time visitors and everyone in-between. The added beauty of the book? It reads like a conversation with a friend … and it is written to be digested however the reader likes, whether from start to finish or randomly flipping to a page at a time. In essence, each reader can truly choose their own adventure.

The book, poised to appeal to myriad ages and interests, includes the area’s can’t-miss classics —Wrightsville Beach, the Riverwalk and sports events at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, along with a smattering of hidden gems and ways to experience old haunts in a new light.

“It’s a beach town so that’s always a good place to start,” says the author. “My top choices are kayaking and paddle sports, or [going to] the Cross City Trail — you can walk or bike [there].”

She adds, “I tried to put something in there for everybody. I’m just one perspective, another longtime local might have a completely different perspective. [The book] has a bit of new stuff and also tried-and-true things that have stood the test of time for several decades.”

Her advice? Treat the book as your personal journal — write notes, share it with loved ones, bookmark it or take it on an adventure with you. It is meant to be used, in whatever way that means for its readers.

Growing up “everywhere and nowhere” as the daughter of a Marine, Conry Davis has now lived in Wilmington for more than two decades — minus a few brief hiatuses — and considers it the closest thing she’s had to a hometown.

100 Things to Do in Wilmington, North Carolina, Before You Die marks a milestone for the freelance writer as her first authored book. The longtime Wilmington local teamed up with Reedy Press to pen the guidebook (Fun fact: Reedy Press has helped publish a lineup of guidebooks that spotlight a slew of other cities around North Carolina) — and she is planning to relish her book press tour era.
