A new piece of Pandora jewelry is a wonderful souvenir of a vacation or special event. Fortunately, Topsail Island Trading Company on North New River Drive is sure to have the piece of Pandora jewelry that will commemorate the event for you. The gift shop has been a mainstay on Topsail Island for a number of years. They have a superb collection of resort clothing and Topsail Island T-shirts.
Topsail Island Trading Company also has a selection of housewares, delicious dips, jams, toppings, salsas and crackers that you won’t find elsewhere. They also have trays, glasses, napkins and serving pieces that would be terrific for hostess gifts.
The company is particularly known for its homemade fudge that comes in a tremendous number of flavors. White, dark and milk chocolate fudge is combined with all types of nuts, candies and caramel that creates mouth-watering tastes. The dark chocolate paired with a great glass of red wine is particularly delicious for those who prefer an interesting way to supplement their antioxidants. Many visitors who sample their fudge continue to have it shipped to them so that they can enjoy it year-round.
Mia’s Marketplace, also located on the approach to the swing bridge. The shop is a virtual cornucopia of items that are hard to resist. The shop, which is much larger than it might appear from street side, has a well-chosen selection of women’s clothing in sizes from XS to XL. Among the popular brands shoppers will find are Escapada women’s clothing and Spartina 449 Belgian leather handbags and jewelry. A full range of Archipelago men’s and women’s shampoos and body lotions are in stock too.
Shoppers with young children or grandchildren will enjoy the thoughtful selection of items for babies and toddlers. Stationery and books are in the shop too.
There also are lots of items for the home. Dash & Albert rugs, numerous Spiritiles – painted sand that is fired on glass and in a copper frame – are on display, and there are lots of unique accessories for home, including a thoughtful selection of decorative pillows.
The back of the store is devoted to a terrific pantry featuring very popular dressings, dips, Shuey pretzels from Pennsylvania where they are hand-tossed and baked in a brick oven, old fashioned sodas and candies including Mary Jane, Bit o Honey, and Fireballs, and fifty varieties of gummies are in stock!
Mia’s artisan fudge wrapped in Belgian chocolate and painted with cocoa butter is a superb treat. The only way to appreciate this store is to visit it.
Another store to visit is in Surf City just over the swing bridge. Bumblebee Market has something for everyone. For women, there are several lines of designer jewelry including a sizable number of monogrammed pieces. Handbags, organizers, gloves and scarves are in stock and the store carries women’s apparel too.
Adorable items for babies and kids include plush toys, activities books and puzzles. Don’t miss the selection of slippers for little ones.
Bumblebee also carries high quality napkin, coasters, aprons and towels.
In the kitchen and gourmet department, you’ll find pasta shaped like NC State and UNC logos and cat or dog lovers pasta shaped like heads and paw prints. Numerous other fun pasta shapes are available too. And don’t miss the cookie section that pairs unique recipes with creative shapes to provide the ultimate in cookie creativity.
The Fishing Village in Surf City is home to two clothing shops. Island Outfitters has island wear for men, women and children, with accessories for all ages too. On Shore Surf Shop has clothing sure to please athletes both young and old, with a vast range of styles and prices available.
South End Outfitters has been a hit on Topsail Island since opening in March 2013, now drawing customers from far and wide. The store is stocked with clothing from such well known, high quality brands as Tommy Bahama, Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide and Peter Millar, labels that are offered for the first time on Topsail Island.
This also is the place to find Sperry Top-Siders, the perfect shoe for boating, fishing and ambling on the island.
South End Outfitters also offers bicycle rentals, the perfect way to get around the island. Stand up paddle boards, including the top-of-the-line Bōte boards, are in stock too.
A fine selection of accessories, including bags, a great selection of beach hats, beach towels and belts, is offered. Across the street from South End is another business operated by the same owners.
Across the street you’ll find one of the oldest Topsail Beach businesses, Beach Shop and Grill, in business on Topsail since 1952. In addition to all types of beach sundries, the gift shop carries the popular Beach Dog t-shirts that are fast becoming collectibles, with new designs introduced each summer.
Furnish Your Beach House
D’s Interior Design has been providing furniture and accessories for homes and businesses for nearly 20 years. Donna Wells, the owner and interior designer, has provided services for both residential and commercial clients, on the island and on the mainland.
She works closely with a number of area builders and real estate companies to give clients the flooring, window treatments, furnishings, wall coverings, paint and accessories that change a property from empty space to a warm and inviting home or office.
The spacious showroom located in Sneads Ferry has a display of unique furniture, accessories and lamps. Many of the items would be perfect gifts and gift wrapping is free. D’s Interior Design is also the only authorized Yankee Candle dealer in the area. The showroom also has a selection of jewelry and hats. The owner and her staff invite people to browse through the showroom.
Located on US Highway 17 just a bit south of Lowe’s Home Improvement and Harris Teeter is Art Exposure, a facility that promotes local artists and crafters in this area. ArtExposure is a 5,000 square foot building that houses classrooms, studios, gallery exhibits and events including wedding receptions, wine tastings and parties.
Studio space is available for lease by chosen artists who must be willing to work in their studios in front of the public. Classes for adults and children in a variety of media and techniques are offered and an art supply store is on site.
There also is a gift shop featuring affordable gifts that have been hand-crafted by local artists. Custom framing, featuring a full supply of frames, archival matting and backing boards is done on-site too
DDT Outlet has been furnishing beach (and other) houses for years. A huge facility is located just minutes south of Topsail Island on Highway 17 North and the store carries a wide enough selection to furnish a home inside and out.
There is a heavy emphasis on beach and nautical themes and everything from outdoor rocking chairs perfect for watching the waves roll in to lamps, beds, sofas, chairs, clocks, dining tables, bar stools and so much more is in stock and ready to go. The unique merchandise runs the gamut from whimsical to practical. There is something for nearly everyone there.
